L’ispirazione di oggi: ho visitato Riga, Lettonia
Sono appena rientrata da un romantico weekend a Riga, una città che mi ha affascinata con la sua eleganza senza tempo e le sue strade particolari che spaziano dal medioevo all’Art Nouveau. Durante i miei viaggi, adoro scoprire oggetti retrò che raccontano storie e che spesso diventano fonte di ispirazione per il Dana Lakescape, il mio nuovo B&B.
In questa newsletter, voglio condividere con voi le meraviglie che ho trovato a Riga in gennaio. Non oso immaginare la bellezza delle aiuole fiorite e delle graminacee in estate!

Perché ogni angolo riflette una passione per l’unicità e i dettagli.
1. la pasticceria di Riga
Tra le tante meraviglie, mi ha colpito una pasticceria decorata con stile raffinato ed elegante. Il soffitto alto, impreziosito da lampadari in ottone e cristallo, creavano un’atmosfera sofisticata. Le pareti color crema, il pavimento in marmo bianco e nero e i dettagli dorati delle decorazioni natalizie donavano un tocco festoso e accogliente.
La cucina a vista con il tavolo da lavoro in legno e marmo, il bancone in legno che traboccava di delizie alla cannella e al cioccolato, esposte su alzatine in argento erano un perfetto equilibrio tra tradizione e ricercatezza, capace di ispirare chi, come me, ama i dettagli d’altri tempi. ( devo imparare a fare i cinnamon rolls )
2. Una via costellata di palazzi Liberty
Riga è un autentico paradiso per gli amanti dell'Art Nouveau. Passeggiando per la via Alberta iela, i palazzi sembrano raccontare storie del passato con le loro raffinate decorazioni in stucco, i balconi finemente lavorati e i dettagli intricati di queste facciate incarnano l’eleganza senza tempo dello stile Liberty. I colori pastello sono unici, una bella paletta di colori da memorizzare per dei futuri lavori al B&B.
3. Il mio bottino tra fiori essiccati e Art Nouveau
Riga è un paradiso per gli amanti dell'Art Nouveau, e non sono riuscita a resistere a portarmi a casa un piccolo pezzo di questa bellezza. Tra i miei tesori ci sono cartoline illustrate, un quadernino per le ricette, una spilla dorata con il caprone, una piastrella rossa liberty stupenda, una decorazione in gesso con fiori ispirati ai motivi liberty, diverse tisane locali e fiori essiccati per la mia collezione. Due bottiglie del famoso Balsamo Nero di Riga completano il mio bottino. Una magnetina con il gatto nero simbolo della Casa del gatto, Si narra che la particolare disposizione dei gatti sul tetto sia stata una forma di protesta del proprietario, in seguito a un rifiuto da parte della Camera di Commercio.
Ogni oggetto è un ricordo prezioso che riporta alla luce lo stile e il fascino unico di questa città straordinaria.

Tutto ciò che vedo durante i miei viaggi mi aiuta a creare spazi che raccontano storie. Ogni lampadario, mobile o dettaglio decorativo è pensato per trasmettere un senso di singolarità e ospitalità. Il Dana Lakescape vuole essere un luogo dove ogni ospite si senta avvolto dalla bellezza.

4 Il balsamo di Riga e il liquore di ciliegia Piana Vyshnia
Il bar "Riga Black Magic" è un luogo affascinante che ti trasporta in un altro tempo. Con l’atmosfera di una vecchia farmacia, tra bottiglie di vetro scuro e dettagli d’epoca, è il posto perfetto per assaporare il famoso balsamo di Riga. Questo liquore racchiude 24 ingredienti naturali che maturano in botti di quercia. Il risultato? Un sapore avvolgente e unico, ideale da gustare liscio o in cocktail raffinati. E infine abbinato ai loro deliziosi cioccolatini e dolciumi è stata un’esperienza fantastica!
Il balsamo e il liquore alla ciliegia Piana Vyshnia rappresentano due irresistibili souvenir da portare a casa e gustare con calma. Il Piana Vyshnia, con il suo intenso liquore alla ciliegia, non è solo una delizia per il palato, ma anche un’esperienza visiva; infatti, i bar che lo servono sono adornati con botti lungo le pareti e sculture alte fino al soffitto fatte di bottiglie di vetro illuminate da un bagliore rosso che creano un’atmosfera unica.
5. Un viaggio tra i colori e i sapori del mercato comunale di Riga
Visitare il mercato comunale di Riga è come entrare in un mondo fatto di profumi e colori. Questo spazio iconico, ospitato in antichi hangar Zeppelin riconvertiti, è un tripudio di sapori locali. Tra le bancarelle si possono trovare erbe aromatiche e fiori essiccati, frutta e verdura freschissima, pesce fresco o essiccato e dolci come l'halva, preparato con pistacchi e mirtilli rossi.
Un’attenzione particolare meritano i cesti di frutta secca, con kaki e pere invernali disidratate, e i prodotti artigianali che raccontano le tradizioni locali. È un luogo dove la cultura lettone prende vita, perfetto per chi ama scoprire tesori autentici.
6. Un’esperienza unica: Rozengrāls, il ristorante medievale
Nel cuore della città vecchia di Riga si trova Rozengrāls, un ristorante che sembra uscito direttamente dal Medioevo. Ospitato in una cantina storica del 13° secolo, il locale vi accoglie con un’atmosfera suggestiva: luci soffuse di candele, arredi in legno massiccio e musica medievale in sottofondo.
Il menu offre piatti ispirati a ricette medievali, accompagnati da bevande artigianali come il sidro, il kvass e i liquori speziati. Un viaggio indietro nel tempo che appassiona non solo per la cucina, ma anche per l’esperienza culturale unica. Bellissimo, da turista, sì forse, ma poco importa, è una ricostruzione che mi è piaciuta molto.
7 La Casa delle Teste Nere e The Corner House, l’ex quartier generale del KGB
La Casa delle Teste Nere è uno degli edifici più iconici di Riga, con una storia che risale al 14° secolo. Originariamente costruita come sede per i mercanti celibi della Gilda delle Teste Nere, l’edificio è un capolavoro architettonico in stile gotico. Purtroppo fu quasi distrutta durante la Seconda Guerra Mondiale, ma è stata ricostruita nel 1999, riportandola al suo antico splendore.
Un dettaglio speciale della visita è il calice di champagne incluso nel biglietto d’ingresso, che aggiunge un tocco di eleganza all’esperienza. Passeggiare nelle sontuose sale e ammirare gli arredi vi trasporta indietro nel tempo, rendendo la visita un momento indimenticabile.
La Corner House, ex quartier generale del KGB a Riga
è un luogo che lascia il segno. Visitandola, si entra in un pezzo di storia carico di emozioni, tra racconti e spazi che portano ancora i segni di un passato difficile. È un’esperienza intensa.
Un angolo di pace: il Dana Lakescape
Il mio B&B si trova a Blevio, un piccolo paese incantato che abbraccia il primo bacino del Lago di Como. Qui ho voluto creare un rifugio dove ogni dettaglio racconta una storia. Dalla vista mozzafiato sul lago al giardino curato con amore, ogni ospite può immergersi nella bellezza della natura e nella tranquillità del paesaggio.

I’ve just returned from a romantic weekend in Riga, a city that captivated me with its timeless elegance and its unique streets, ranging from medieval to Art Nouveau styles. During my travels, I love discovering retro objects that tell stories and often become sources of inspiration for Dana Lakescape, my new B&B.
In this newsletter, I want to share with you the wonders I found in Riga in January. I can only imagine the beauty of its blooming flowerbeds and grasses in the summer!

Why do I love these places?
Because every corner reflects a passion for uniqueness and details.
1. The pastry shop in Riga
Among the many wonders, I was struck by a pastry shop decorated with refined elegance. Its high ceiling, adorned with brass and crystal chandeliers, created a sophisticated atmosphere. The cream-colored walls, black-and-white marble flooring, and the golden details of the Christmas decorations gave it a festive and welcoming touch.
The open kitchen, with its wooden and marble worktable, and the wooden counter overflowing with cinnamon and chocolate delights displayed on silver stands, struck a perfect balance between tradition and elegance. It’s an inspiration for those like me who love vintage details. (I really need to learn how to make cinnamon rolls!)
2. A street lined with Art Nouveau buildings
Riga is a true paradise for Art Nouveau enthusiasts. Walking down Alberta iela, the buildings seemed to tell stories of the past with their refined stucco decorations, intricately crafted balconies, and detailed facades that embody the timeless elegance of the Liberty style. The pastel colors are unique—a beautiful palette to remember for future projects at the B&B.
3. My treasure trove of dried flowers and Art Nouveau finds
Riga is heaven for Art Nouveau lovers, and I couldn’t resist bringing a small piece of this beauty home with me. Among my treasures are illustrated postcards, a recipe notebook, a golden brooch with a goat design, a stunning red Art Nouveau tile, a plaster decoration with flowers inspired by Liberty motifs, several local teas, and dried flowers for my collection. Two bottles of Riga’s famous Black Balsam complete my haul.
I also picked up a magnet featuring the black cat, a symbol of the Cat House. It is said that the peculiar placement of the cats on the roof was a form of protest by the owner after being refused membership in the Chamber of Commerce.
Each item is a precious memory that evokes the unique style and charm of this extraordinary city.
How I bring all this to Dana Lakescape
Everything I see during my travels helps me create spaces that tell stories. Every chandelier, piece of furniture, or decorative detail is designed to convey a sense of uniqueness and hospitality. Dana Lakescape aims to be a place where every guest feels surrounded by beauty.
4. Riga's balsam and Piana Vyshnia cherry liqueur
The “Riga Black Magic” bar is a fascinating place that transports you to another era. With the atmosphere of an old apothecary, featuring dark glass shelves and vintage details, it’s the perfect spot to savor Riga's famous balsam. This liqueur contains 24 natural ingredients aged in oak barrels. The result? A rich, unique flavor, ideal for sipping straight or in refined cocktails. Pairing it with their delicious chocolates and confections was an unforgettable experience! The balsam and the Piana Vyshnia cherry liqueur are two irresistible souvenirs to take home and enjoy at leisure.
Piana Vyshnia, with its intense cherry liqueur, is not only a delight for the palate but also a visual treat. The bars serving it are adorned with barrels along the walls and sculptures made of glass bottles that stretch up to the ceiling, illuminated with a red glow that creates a unique atmosphere.
5. A journey through the colors and flavors of Riga’s central market
Visiting Riga’s central market is like stepping into a world of scents and colors. This iconic space, housed in repurposed Zeppelin hangars, is a feast of local flavors.
Among the stalls, you’ll find aromatic herbs, dried flowers, fresh fruits and vegetables, fresh or dried fish, and sweets like halva, made with pistachios and cranberries.
The baskets of dried fruits—featuring dried persimmons and winter pears—are particularly noteworthy, as are the handcrafted products that tell the story of local traditions. This is a place where Latvian culture comes alive, perfect for those who love discovering authentic treasures.
6. A unique experience: Rozengrāls, the medieval restaurant
In the heart of Riga’s Old Town lies Rozengrāls, a restaurant straight out of the Middle Ages. Housed in a historic 13th-century cellar, the venue welcomes you with a captivating atmosphere: the soft glow of candles, massive wooden furnishings, and medieval music playing in the background.
The menu offers dishes inspired by medieval recipes, accompanied by artisanal beverages like cider, kvass, and spiced liqueurs. It’s a journey back in time that enchants not only for its cuisine but also for its unique cultural experience. Beautiful and touristy? Yes, perhaps, but it doesn’t matter—it’s a reconstruction I thoroughly enjoyed.
7. The House of the Blackheads and The Corner House, the former KGB headquarters
The House of the Blackheads is one of Riga’s most iconic buildings, with a history dating back to the 14th century. Originally built as a guild for unmarried merchants, the building is a Gothic architectural masterpiece.
Destroyed during World War II, it was rebuilt in 1999, restoring it to its former splendor. A special detail of the visit is the champagne glass included with the ticket, adding an elegant touch to the experience. Wandering through the sumptuous halls and admiring the furnishings transports you back in time, making the visit unforgettable.
The Corner House, the former KGB headquarters in Riga, is a place that leaves a lasting impression. Visiting it is like stepping into a piece of history laden with emotion, with stories and spaces that still bear the marks of a difficult past. It’s an intense experience.
A corner of peace: Dana Lakescape
My B&B is located in Blevio, a small enchanted village embracing the first basin of Lake Como. Here, I wanted to create a retreat where every detail tells a story. From the breathtaking lake view to the lovingly curated garden, every guest can immerse themselves in the beauty of nature and the tranquility of the landscape.
